The “PH” refers to precipitation hardening, a heat treatment process that boosts strength and wear resistance significantly. Typically, the makeup of Stainless Steel 17-4 PH includes around 15–17.5% chromium, 3–5% nickel, 3–5% copper, along with small amounts of niobium and manganese. These elements play a crucial role in enhancing its hardenability and corrosion resistance. After undergoing heat treatment (often aged at H900 to H1150 conditions), these nuts can reach tensile strengths between 930 to 1310 MPa and yield strengths from 725 to 1180 MPa, all while boasting high hardness and fatigue resistance. They retain their strength even in high-temperature environments, enduring up to 600°F (316°C).
