Stainless Steel 446 bolts are crafted from a high-chromium ferritic alloy that contains around 23–27% chromium, along with small amounts of molybdenum, silicon, manganese, and carbon. This alloy is known for its remarkable resistance to oxidation and sulfidation at temperatures reaching up to 1100°C (2010°F). While it can’t be heat-treated for hardness like martensitic grades, 446 maintains stable mechanical properties even under thermal cycling. Typically, it boasts a tensile strength of about 485 MPa (70 ksi) and a yield strength of around 275 MPa (40 ksi). Its low thermal expansion and high-temperature stability make it an excellent choice for thermal processing environments.
